The astonishingly beautiful Övertorneå Church is the scene for a musical expedition binding together folk music, sacred music, and chamber music from different eras. The Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály found his unique voice through tireless efforts of collecting folk music form the Balkans. His grand work Duo for Violin and Cello finds home in the repertoire of the finest players of those instruments. Frequent performers in the world’s greatest concert halls, violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and cellist Jan-Erik Gustafsson are natural performers of Kodály’s grand work, and in addition they offer a rendering of Händel’s Passacaglia, which was made popular in the catchy arrangement Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen. Paavali Jumppanen joins the celebrated string players in a rare potpourri of beloved tunes J.S. Bach.
