The Väyläfestival announces three one-month long artist residencies to take place during the summer 2023. Application period is between January 18th – February 15th, 2023. The residencies will be organized in Kolari, Muonio, and Enontekiö municipalities in northern Finland.
The residencies are open for professional artists working in Finland, Norway, or Sweden. The following arts are included: music, literature, poetry, photography, design, visual arts, and environmental art.
Successful artists will be supplied accommodation and a workspace for the period June 10th – July 8th. A fee of 2.200 euros will be paid to each of the artists. In addition, travel and material costs may be reimbursed based on negotiation with the organizer.
Two public appearances will be organized as part of the residencies. The first is a workshop lead the residence artist and offered to active amateurs in the field of the respective art. The second is a public appearance at the 2023 Väyläfestival. The organizer and the residence artists will plan these appearances together.
Applications
The applications period is between January 18th – February 15th (11.59 p.m., Finnish time). Applications must include:
-the Applicant’s name and date of birth
-contact information (email, phone number, home address)
-a work plan (max. two A4 pages)
-an abstract of the work plan (max. 500 symbols)
-resume
It is possible to include work samples and maximum two recommendations. The application must be submitted 11.59 p.m. (Finnish time) on Wednesday February 15th, 2023 to residenssit(at)vaylafestival.com. Late applications will not be considered.
Choices and Announcement
The artists will be chosen based on the applications. Special interest is given to work plans that in some way reflect the cultural heritage of the Torne River Valley. Work in minority languages as well as in cultural margins will be viewed with special interest.
The Väyläfestival artistic committee will make the artist choices. Candidates will be informed of the decisions during February 2023. Once the chosen artists have confirmed their participance the list of artists will be made public, however no later than February 28th, 2023.
The artist residencies are supported Arts Promotion Centre Finland and the Enontekiö, Kolari, and Muonio municipalities.
