THE SUONI PERFORMANCE

Suoni (Eng. Vein) is a performance-work created for the Väyläfestival Katariina Angeria, an artist native to the Torne River Valley. The work spans the entire festival tying the other program elements together.

Suoni follows an improvised route along the river and unfolds in an improvised manner. Ms. Angeria with dances at people’s homes and on their yards. At times she will dance from being human into to water and again from water into human. The work is, on the one hand, a meditation and, on the other hand, an homage to our “water bodies” and the interaction between people and the river. During the course of the work, she’s expecting to live dependent on the local people, relying on their generosity, sleep at people’s homes and if necessary, in barns.

For Suoni, Ms. Angeria has woven the fabric for a national costume of the Torne River Valley, which she wears during the piece. Ms. Angeria makes the journey riding a bicycle pulling a small trailer with some necessary equipment.
